Behind the Boards with Vell

While I was taking a break from music production, I slowly started to miss it. I not only missed creating but even the boring and time-sucking parts. Like sitting in front of the computer for hours, putting fades on each individual vocal phrase just to make sure I don’t have any room noise. 

One day scrolling on social media I saw one of my friends doing a challenge very similar to ‘13Days of Vell’ (my personal challenge to release a song per day for thirteen days) but he was posting shoes he’d designed. I asked him if I could create a beat for each of his shoes and he said yes. About three quarters of the way through Lance messaged me and asked if he could put a verse to one of the beats. I said yes because one, we are friends and two, it meant more time to work on music.

I had been listening to K Camp ALOT at the time, and thought "I've never made a gospel inspired or infused beat." So I created ‘Hold My Hand (uneverything)’ which later became ‘Exit Strategy’. Still not convinced I was coming out of my funk, I wanted to keep going in my music production. 

This meant Lance and I would later have to have a conversation about what EMANCIPATION meant and why we were releasing it. I said to myself let me trying to make something for myself and see how it feels. How does it make me feel when I play it back. From that mindset, I created the beat for ‘Exit Strategy’ and the rest is.. history? Yeah, the rest is history.
